Dear blog,
I still can't really believe that we finally managed to release gtv2, but its a huge relief now.
From the very beginning on we allways had our productive stages which were interrupted every now and then by periods (sometimes weeks or more) where we did absolutely nothing because...well, i don't know exactly why. Probably because we just couldnt be up to it. Then always one of us ( arni and me) was motivated to do something but the other one just couldn't team up. And when he finally started to get involved it was exactly the other way round, so we simply couldnt get much work done.
When we sometimes finally managed to get our asses up together we made huge steps, but everything we got done threw up new tasks so it sometimes felt like a Sisyphean task (i looked that one up). While we were coding stuff, other parts of the page lay fallow for so long that it started breaking even though we didnt even touch it (im still wondering if theres no evil person who got up at night (or day acutally) and implemented time bombs while we were sleeping :P).
In fact, the cornerstone of the page was laid in August 2006 if i remember correctly.
Now it's done and there are some features i especially like and think a page like this really needs. First thing would be timezones. That was awfully mixed up in gtv1; now the entire page is in your timezone, no matter if you add stuff (request coverage) or just display the items. We're supporting in total 119 timezones btw, thats quite a lot ;p
Also we're honouring contributions more than gtv1 did. You probably already visited your profile and saw your personal stats there, but also when I see that we have broadcast servers like fayntic ETTV which casted 750 matches i must say thats quite an achievement.
Event handling has improved a lot and i hope we can cast more matches in the future with less fuckups.
Very mighty is our new access system which nobody will understand but its really mighty, just trust me on that one.
For the "average" user we have tried to make the page more self customizable and I believe we have succeeded in this.
Of course there are countless more improvements and features which hopefully make the site more enjoyable and there are still some goodies that will be released in time.
To not steal you more of your valuable time i will end this now but i want to tell you: we put much much much effort and love in this, and not only arni and me but many others who i dont want to list now because i would forget too many. "The ones will know it" (i hate it if somebody else writes that and I'm one of those who arent listed, so i appologise for that ;)
Sorry for my engrish, hope im understandable
PS: For the ETQW haters: just adblock http://www.gamestv.org/images/head.right.jpg and leave me alone. there will be more pics soon
PPS: My special thank and honour to arni. it was a pleasure (and will be) working with you.
