Just a few minutes ago gtv once again moved to a new webhost. The machine (a singlecore p4) was simply not state of the art anymore and although it took more than 1500 concurent users it was time to upgrade.
Together with the folks at fragstore a virtual hosting environment was set up using openvz. Because a large pool of resources is shared among all clients, not only the performance for the single client (us) increases, but we also reduce power consumption by reducing the number of discrete hardware units - gtv goes green ;-)
Some facts:
Virtualisation through openvz
Powered by debian4.0 minimal
High performance webserver nginx
php running as fast-cgi
mysqld 5.0 (my_huge.cnf)
and simply no useless bullshit ;-)
nginx (engine-x) is a super high performance webserver programmed but some crazy russians - a lot faster than the default apache webserver you find on most systems.
We estimate that this system can take at least 4500 concurent users - we're ready for things to come ;-)
